COMING SOON! Course Title: Bahamian Birds and Bird Guiding ​Focus Areas: Resident avian species of The Bahamas, Common migratory avian species to The Bahamas, Bird ecotourism, Avian biology, Habitat and ecosystem conservation. Target Audience: Wildlife enthusiasts, students, and professionals in ecology, biology, and conservation. Format: Virtual lectures, interactive and hands-on activities, and field observations. Course Overview: This twelve (12) week course introduces the diverse avian fauna of The Bahamas, emphasizing the identification of avian species, their biology, ecology, and understanding the role that bird conservation play in Bahamian ecosystems. Additionally, this course will incorporate a practical component on bird-guiding tours and explore the growing field of bird ecotourism in The Bahamas. Participants are required to have achieved a grade average of 75% or higher and complete 40 hours of fieldwork in order to pass the course. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will 1. Identify and classify a variety of bird species native to The Bahamas. 2. Understand the ecological roles and conservation issues surrounding Bahamian birds. 3. Develop the skills necessary for bird-guiding, including interpretation of bird behaviors and habitats. 4. Demonstrate proficiency in using birding tools such as field guides, binoculars, and calls. 5. Gain practical experience in the ecotourism industry, specifically bird-watching tourism in The Bahamas.
