finding inspiration AT every turn

Bahamian wildlife has always been an attractive aspect of the Bahamian landscape. Unfortunately, most Bahamians are unaware of the fantastic array of terrestrial flora and fauna that also call The Bahamas home. Over time, the failure to grasp and value the importance of Bahamian wildlife has generated negative repercussions, for both Bahamians and wildlife alike. These consequences include the unjustified slaughter of native wildlife like snakes, the habituation of animals to human presence through activities like the feeding of rock iguanas, and the loss of potential for budding entrepreneurs to tap into the lucrative eco-tourism sector.  Through his experiences with public engagement about Bahamian terrestrial ecosystems, Wild Bahamas’ founder, Scott Johnson, saw the need to embark on an initiative that would improve knowledge, foster appreciation, and promote pride amongst the Bahamian populace in Bahamian terrestrial biodiversity. With his wife and co-founder, Janeczka Johnson, the duo, who both started their conservation journeys in 2007 have garnered a combined 36 years of wildlife education and conservation experience. Their hope is to continue to educate and provide the necessary tools needed to increase Bahamian awareness, assist local Bahamian businesses, and promote conservation and advocacy for sustainable development that benefits both humans and wildlife.

Integrity

Wild Bahamas will not support the wanton destruction of the Bahamian environment or projects that will have an adverse effect on native ecosystems or the intentional introduction of potential invasive species. We understand and recognize the importance of development to The Bahamas' economic growth and advocate for sustainable projects. These developments should minimize and mitigate environmental impacts, respect natural habitats, and take active steps to protect and maintain healthy terrestrial ecosystems.
